[Screencasting] is a nice useful technique where you can record your desktop to try and show something or teach something. The people at [Ruby on Rails] use this technique to good effect :)
I spent ages looking for some stuff to this with on OSX, but the only things recommended by people cost cash :(
So after watching lots of the [Zooomr MKIII launch on ustream] and seeing what Kris was doing with [CamTwist] (which is free!) I had a bit of of a brain wave.
So for a free screencast solution try the following:
- Download and install [CamTwist]
- Start [CamTwist] with no effects
- Start iMovie
- Flick the switch at the bottom of iMovie to Recording - click on the arrow to select the CamTwist camera
- Do some recording!
There you go. Just a few things to look out for:
- This will beat the life out of your CPU meaning fan noise might be an issue
- Export the movie from iMovie in CD quality or it won’t work for most video sites (like [vimeo])
On Sunday (10/06/2007) me and the missus woke up early and decided to head down the Bournemouth beach - which is only 30mins away!!
It was very nice, the sea was very cold and for most of the morning there was no bugger there :)
We walked most of the way to Christchurch before getting hungry and finding a Wetherspoons pub to have breakfast in :)
Also I took some photo’s…
So lets get some things ironed out.
- Freeview has lots of channels, lots of them are crap and I would _never_ watch anything one them.
- TV Guides cost money, harm the environment and are full of gossip about soaps and people that I could not care less about.
Right. Good. So this is where Mightyv comes in! It’s a free online TV guide! Now if you’re anything like me (with the hatred of magazines) you might have already tried the RadioTimes website - which also provides a ‘free’ online TV guide (when it’s bloody working).
In many ways these two things are quite similar:
- Can choose the channels you want to see in your view - removing QVC etc
- Let you look a week or so into the future
- Give descriptions and ratings of shows
But in some ways they are different…
- Mightyv lets you create your own schedule and export it as a calendar (in ICS format) which you can then integrate into 30Boxes (the best online calendar there is)
- RadioTimes is better at regional variations
- RadioTimes has _all_ the channels Mightyv doesn’t cos of legal and money issues :(
- Mightyv has a little widget (shown below) that shows the next 5 things on your schedule
- Mightyv lets you make friends, change your buddy icon and see what your friends are watching
- Mightyv DOES SERIES!!! - Yes you can add a series to your schedule - HOW GOOD IS THAT!!??

I got too much stuffs in my head so I gotta drop some off here, k? Good.
- [Meet the World] - (depressing yet) interesting facts through flags
- [Why are the adverts louder than the programmes] - I’ve often wondered this
- [How to eat what you want and still stay buff] - in comic form
- [Zooomr MKIII] - IT. IS. AWESOME.
