Ice Road Truckers

by jonh on February 2nd, 2008

There’s a show on Channel 5 here in the UK at 8pm on Wednesdays and Fridays about the [Ice Road Truckers].

Basically there are some big diamond mines in very northern Alaska (near the arctic circle) which need supplies. But due to most of the nothern territories being either lakes or permafrost they can only make the trip in the winter due to a road they make out of ice!

Anyways it’s awesome – watch it!

  1. I saw a bit of this – those guys look insane!

  2. Why is it all the insane people end up rich? Or in this case only need to work 2 months of the year!

none of you guys ever heard of an adrenalin rush, try it.
On ordinary roads every day you have to avoid crazy drivers, this is just the elements. WOW

  4. “this is just the elements”

You make it sound like driving inside the Arctic circle is “a bit nippy”

It wasn’t meant to sound flippant, I meant they only had the elements and not the crazy idiots as well. After seeing a clip from the next program perhaps they do, but not so many. It’s only the good drivers keeping the bad ones out of trouble, trust me.

It in Canada, not Alaska, there is a difference.
1 Being that Alaska is part of the USA and Canada is a seperate independant country.

  7. D’oh! Sorry :(
