[Screencasting] is a nice useful technique where you can record your desktop to try and show something or teach something. The people at [Ruby on Rails] use this technique to good effect :)
I spent ages looking for some stuff to this with on OSX, but the only things recommended by people cost cash :(
So after watching lots of the [Zooomr MKIII launch on ustream] and seeing what Kris was doing with [CamTwist] (which is free!) I had a bit of of a brain wave.
So for a free screencast solution try the following:
- Download and install [CamTwist]
- Start [CamTwist] with no effects
- Start iMovie
- Flick the switch at the bottom of iMovie to Recording - click on the arrow to select the CamTwist camera
- Do some recording!
There you go. Just a few things to look out for:
- This will beat the life out of your CPU meaning fan noise might be an issue
- Export the movie from iMovie in CD quality or it won’t work for most video sites (like [vimeo])
Well thanks to [Sun for stumping up a Thumper x4500] (disks and 24TB of space) and Dell fixing the raid controller that broke [Zooomr MKIII] is back on track.
Kris has crashed right now after another 24 hour stint, but blogged photos are back (as you can see) and I’m sure it won’t be much longer before the worlds most awesome photo sharing site gets even more awesome!
In the meantime follow [Zooomr-TV at UStream] (or below)
And join the Zooomr-TV chat via an IRC client like [chatzilla]

Ok so I’m sure you’ve heard me bang on about this photo sharing website called [Zooomr]. Well they’ve just spent the last week upgrading the entire service to [Zooomr MKIII].
[Zooomr MKIII] is the most awesome photo sharing site you could imagine - check out the demo video for it if you don’t believe me.

But there’s a problem Zooomr is only a small startup and since the MKIII launch they’re had [investors pull out] and just this morning [massive hardware failures].

Woo!! Thanks to everyone who got me pressies!!
Well the reading beer festival is over, and I have to say I’m a little disappointed.
Compared to last year we seemed to choose a lots of crap tasting beers, and the names didn’t quite seem up to the usual standard - though plenty were of [GSV] quality. Maybe it was our fault, maybe it was the beer, who knows.
As for the full report Marc is in the process of creating some top trumps from the 36 beers sampled - look out for those, they’re probably not available in shops….
On the up side Spiller was wearing a cool hat which provided great entertainment :)
And I managed to take one arty photo!
People! This weekend it is [Reading Beer Festival]. It’s at Kings meadow, near the massive Tesco that’s near the Reading train station.
Go!
For those of you that haven’t been to a beer festival before here’s what you do:
- Pay some money to get in and get a glass (get a pint one)
- Have a quick flick though the book of beers
- Choose one with either a funny name (normally sold out) or darker than the colour of space
- Get a half of it - yeah I know I told you to get a pint glass, but this is an all day thing. Plus it might taste crap!
- Try your mates beer, and let them try yours
- Back to step two..
See? Easy!
I’ll be there from the start on Saturday, expect a full report sometime on Monday :)
I submitted a photo to the “We are all photographers now” exhibit at The Musée de l’Elysée (a museum for photography in Switzerland) and it got shown.
And they sent me a pic of it being shown!

Ok so due to a little bug in [Zooomr] you can see your friends private images as long as you can see a preview of them. You can see previews by looking at the welcome mat page.
If you click on an image that’s private you’ll get the “Hmmm you’re looking for something that’s not here” page. But if you right click and choose “View Image” then you’ll see the small preview in it’s own window with it’s direct URL.
The URL will look something like this:
http://static.zooomr.com/images/976850_edf16793e5_s.jpg
Note the _s at the end - it means small. So delete the _s and see the original image!!

Ahh the confusion that the internet (and automated spam filters) breeds, it was all a miss understanding.
Really sorry Raoul, feel free to think of a way to make it up to you…
He’s done it again!!
This week it’s the story of a cat who gets the bus to his favourite fish and chip shop most days.
Marc: Cat that got the bream
This is going to start becoming non-blog-worthy if it happens every week!!
