Dangerous dogs are an increasing issue, allegedly. But just banning certain breeds of dog out right probably isn’t going to fix anything.
So in order to test whether people should be allowed to keep their dogs I’ve come up with three pretty simple tests.
- Restraint — can you control your dog, physically?
You and your dog (which is on a lead) are put in a 2 metre wide circle. A rabbit/cat/ball/dog toy is then used to attract the dog. If you can keep the dog within the circle for a whole minute you’ve passed - Behaviour — does your listen to you in any way
You and your dog are put in a large area and your dog is not on a lead. A dummy child is put in the other corner of your area and emits a dog whistle noise. You just have to attract your dog away from the child. - Mental Health — is your dog mental
Your dog are put in a large area and your dog is not on a lead. A dummy child is put in the other corner of your area and emits a dog whistle noise. You just have to hope your dog doesn’t try to kill it.
There you go — it’s a bit like an MOT really Stay safe kids!
