Who’s idea was it that your ‘hold’ baggage went on a different flight to you? Is there really any need for such over complication?
Lets check out the facts:
* A plane can go a certain distance on a certain amount of fuel
* People weight roughly the same amount
* Hand luggage is limited in size
* Hold luggage is almost always limited in weight (as far as I know)
* If you want more hold luggage you have to pay extra and book it in
So exactly why does the luggage need to go on a different flight? I could understand if you extra luggage had to travel separately, but not the luggage that you get allocated surely!
Can someone explain?
For most cases your hold baggage does go on the same flight to you – it’s a security requirement. It’s assumed that by making people fly with their luggage, you cut the number of plane bombings.
Generally, it only doesn’t fly with you if the airport is a catastrophic fuck-up, (see Heathrow T5) and the baggage sorting system fails. Then you end up with flights taking off without luggage, and the next flight has to take some of the lost luggage to your destination and so on until the back log is cleared.
Ahh I see, so all those people you see on the news are kind of exceptions to how it _should_ be done.
Thanks :)
