Marc ‘wins’ Punorama contest..

Well done to Marc for ‘winning’ this weeks Punorama contest on the BBC.

Each week the Punorama team challenge people to think up puns for the events they define.

The story this week was that female soldiers took up posts guarding Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle for the first time ever. For centuries it has been a ceremonial role reserved exclusively for the boys. Five women from the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery marched into Windsor, while four from the Army Air Corps reported for duty at the Palace.

Marc said: Buckingham Alice.

Nice one buddy :D

Animal X Games 2007

So there I was sorting out some test material on a developers box, running it, fixing it, running it some more. In other words bored. This dev just happens to have a white board next to his desk and I’m bored.

Well what did you expect? Probably not….

Click on the photo above to be taken to [Zooomr] which will allow you to see close ups of the individual events, it’s almost like being there!

For the partially sighted of you here’s a run down of what you could see if you weren’t partially sighted:

  • Fox Duck chasing
  • Cat-Cow-Pig Halfpipe Rollerskating
  • Badger Surfing
  • Giraffe Fell Rolling (like [Fell Running] but using a ball)

Anything you’d like to see at next years Animal X Games before the council shut us down?

Pledgebank

Today I discovered the conceptual treasure trove that is [pledgebank].

The concept is thus: Tell the world “I’ll do it, but only if you’ll help me do it”

So you get other people to help you do stuff that you probably all wanted to do, just not on your own.

Behind this sage meaningful exterior are also some of the most ridiculous suggestions ever. Here are some of my faves separated by rants :)

Active Pledges - more weird than funny I guess:

First off, people usually try and stop coffee shops setting up in small areas and secondly, Kris, what about the environmental implications of increasing our import of fresh fruit? or turning more forests into orchards? And I’m pretty sure no one really likes vegetable juice….

Failed Pledges - usually funny or stupid:

Eddie’s case is a bit different from the others but still, you can’t just say it’s bad, try suggesting a way to make it better! Maybe we should remove the word complaint from the dictionary and make people use the word feedback instead…..?

Finally I would like to point out that there are some excellent pledges that people should sign up for, here are my chosen few (no I haven’t signed them yet, but you’re not a sheep are you!?).

Worthwhile Pledges - stuff that doesn’t suck:

I hope you all feel very slightly better about yourselves now :)

How to make an Alienware PC for next to nothing

[Alienware] PCs are cool - but they cost an arm and a leg, and need both my arms even if I think I could live without a leg. So I’m going to show you how to convert and ordinary cheapo Dell PC into an amazing Alienware one! *

What you need:

Got it? Ok here we go.

Step one - put eveything on a table

Step two - cut out the alien face from the [Space Raiders] box

Step three - put the blue tack on the back of it

Step four - find your Dell PC (not available in shops)

Step 5 - attach the alien face

Congratulations on your new [Alienware] PC*.

Optional step six - eat [Space Raiders]
* may not give the performace as [Alienware] PC, effect is visual only

* photos of Dell PC blurred to protect the IP addresses of the innocent

Old Websites…

I’m bored so I whacked [bluemonki into yahoo] to try and get the old page rank up a bit and to see what came out.

Most amusing was [this] from when I was still a student.

I actually got an email from Dave Roberts a while ago which looked like this:

I like the table.

How about coming to study in the top VR centre in the country. I don’t
hate
postgrads quite as much.

Dave

I’m pretty sure I didn’t reply to this - but feel free to use the comments section to voice your potential replies….maybe I could forward them on…

Please and Dammit

I’ve just noticed that the words Please and Dammit are pretty much interchangable. For instance:

Put that away please

Put that away dammit

or

More cheese please

More cheese dammit

Weird huh?

my sense of humour

This made me cry with laughter this morning:

Cartoon from My new filing technique is unstoppable

This happens very rarely as I seem to have a slightly modified sense of humour to everbody else :)

This guy also does another cartoon in the Guardian every Thursday, which is today, excellent (best day ever?)

fire

There was a really cool storm in Bristol today which I watched for a while thinking “It would be cool to take some photo’s of this, if only I had a tripod” until I realsed that Emma hadn’t wrapped up the camera tripod that I was supposed to be getting for my birthday. Unsurprisingly the storm went away immediately - dammit.

But while sitting on the loo, I saw this label in my trousers, can anyone think of any reason I would want to put my groin near a fire?

poodle hat

The Original Poodle HatThe poodle hat is probably the single most important development in the road accident that is ballon-based fashion. Not more that 10 seconds after my commisioning of a poodle hat - something which I have often dreamed - a lady sitting near me also wanted one. Some people follow trends, other start them :) (this phrase was actually coined by marc)
