So when we were on holiday in Keswick (photo’s to come I promise!), the cottage we were staying in had a small dishwasher – probably because their hot water wasn’t really very hot. Emma has always been against dishwashers as she never believed that they cleaned things properly – but after using the one on holiday we’re kind of convinced they clean stuff pretty good.
Hence the (environmental) dilemma
For:
- Saves me doing it
- Cleans stuff a lot hotter than we can
Against:
- Possibly uses more water – contentious point as it’s hard to measure how much water we’re using when we do it by hand – but even the most efficient use at least 12 litres
- More electricity usage – though we wouldn’t use the hot water so much if we had one as the shower heats it itself
So I’m stuck. Opinions please! Also feel free to add pros/cons :)
Ahoy hoy, old bean.
We moved into a hoose with a dishwasher. I’d previously refused to buy/use one, primarily for environmental reasons. But, as it’s there…
All the dishwashers that i’ve lived with have been bastarding things that have never worked properly. Ours currently is only working at half capacity {shortly after we moved in a big, and apparently necessary, part broke off the top drawer and as yet we’ve {read: boB} not found a replacement – they’re tricky things to get hold of it would seem}. So, dishwashers are environmentally unfriendly -energy/water consumption- at the best of times, but HIDEOUSLY environmentally unfriendly when working at low capacity.
Plus, i don’t know how it is in the Wesley household, but we have near enough kitchen wear to cater for at least four meals {and we have been known to stretch that to ten…}. Keen to ease our environmental consciences, we are determined to only run the dishwasher when it’s absolutely rammed full. Unfortunately, this means that we have a backlog of dirty dishes. Our kitchen is an euk-hole. When you’re washing by hand, you stay on top of each and every meal – or at least each and every day. Oh boy, have we grown lazy. Perhaps this is the OCD part of my personality speaking – i call him Frank – but this is a big irk in a teeeeeny tiiiiiny kitchen such as ours. Though, Emma does seem much more house trained than my housemate…
Plus plus, environmentally friendly dishwasher tablets and rinse aid {thinking Ecover} seem disproportionately expensive.
In my opinion, it’s simply not worth it. Dishwashers are bastardly badgers for the lazy.
Oh, and, most importantly, life just isn’t as beautiful without Fairy soft hands.
I saw this:
